The BIG weekend
One of the complaints that I occasionally have about life in Pasadena, and studying at Caltech, is that it can very quickly become an insular life, where the only change in scenery is between the apartment and the office.
Next time I make that complaint, just smack me. Because every now and then, along will come a BIG weekend, like the most recent one. Right on time, too.
It started with skiing on Wednesday at Mt. Baldy, courtesy of cheap tickets from a store on the corner of Huntington and Rosemead. Then came the crazy work rush for meetings on Friday (ok, so that wasn’t the best part of the weekend). The meeting, though, went really well.
Then Friday night we hit Santa Monica, Saturday was Malibu beach, and I finished it off with a Saturday night house party thrown by another Fulbright student, in a mansion in Bel Air.
Now my advisor is away for two weeks, which is perfect timing for the end-of-term problem set rush.
Even the weather was co-operating — all the rain has left the air really clean, so my sunset drive out west on Friday afternoon was one of the most beautiful I’ve had in LA. It made watching the road a real chore!
