Thanks to Bert, I just saw the trailer for “In my country”. It’s a movie arriving in March, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Juliette Binoche amongst others, set in South Africa during the Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings.

It looks really good — addressing the obvious things like the atrocities of the Apartheid system, but also some of the issues of what made the junior police officers do what they did, and also the question of what being African means, played out between Jackson’s African American reporter character, and Binoche’s (white) Afrikaner poet/reporter character.

I’m going to drag everyone I can to see it, so be warned. It’s just a pity that the Afrikaans accent of Binoche could use some work!
